The Powerful Become Vegans

Former president Bill Clinton is a good example of the benefits of veganism. Clinton, who had a long history of heart disease, and who was notorious for his addiction to junk food, decided to make a big change in his life: he became a vegan. It is easy to appreciate the physical changes in the ex-president; he looks younger and healthier.  Not only his eating habits have changed but also he has more energy; he said that his latest medical reports seem satisfactory.

"All my blood tests are good, and my vital signs are good, and I feel good, and I also have, believe it or not, more energy," Clinton said in an interview with CNN. In the same interview he expressed that his latest goal was “getting his weight down to 185, what he weighed when he was 13 years old”. Clinton also created a Foundation that is encouraging more exercise in schools. The Foundation also promoted to change the schools’ lunches by offering healthy options. The former president is concern that “today’s children will not face the same heart troubles he has”. I think that his example, in regards of veganism, is inspirational for many Americans and for many people around the world.

Veganism and Celebrities

Veganism is becoming very popular among celebrities. Ellen Degeneres, a famous comedian, television host and actress, has created a website dedicated to promote veganism. There are other celebrities, and popular culture figures that have joined this revolutionary style of life. Alec Baldwin , MikeTyson ,Alicia Silverstone, James Cromwell and Bill Clinton are among many of the celebrities that are vegans.

Veganism: A Better Life for our People and our Planet

Veganism, the practice of the consumption of a plant based diet, is not a new phenomenon. Throughout the times people have adopted this way of life for one or another reason.  The first references to veganism come to us from many centuries ago and was practiced by ancient civilizations.  This eating modality was adopted by some members of the Greek and the Italian cultures that flourished in the Mediterranean region in past millennia. In those two civilizations a plant based diet was associated with the idea of nonviolence towards animals. This style of life also had profound religious significance for those cultures. Among some famous vegetarians from that era we could mention, Plato, Socrates and Pythagoras.
However, was not until 1944 that the term "vegan" surged in the United Kingdom with the foundation of the Vegan Society . In general terms, the mission of the vegan society is to promote a vegan lifestyle. They offer advice and support to people who decided to become vegans. The recommendations that this organization does, help people to make the transition, from a carnivorous diet, to a more enjoyable plant based one.  One of the society’s main objectives is to persuade people to change their lifestyle and adopt veganism.
