Veganism: A Better Life for our People and our Planet

Veganism, the practice of the consumption of a plant based diet, is not a new phenomenon. Throughout the times people have adopted this way of life for one or another reason.  The first references to veganism come to us from many centuries ago and was practiced by ancient civilizations.  This eating modality was adopted by some members of the Greek and the Italian cultures that flourished in the Mediterranean region in past millennia. In those two civilizations a plant based diet was associated with the idea of nonviolence towards animals. This style of life also had profound religious significance for those cultures. Among some famous vegetarians from that era we could mention, Plato, Socrates and Pythagoras.
However, was not until 1944 that the term "vegan" surged in the United Kingdom with the foundation of the Vegan Society . In general terms, the mission of the vegan society is to promote a vegan lifestyle. They offer advice and support to people who decided to become vegans. The recommendations that this organization does, help people to make the transition, from a carnivorous diet, to a more enjoyable plant based one.  One of the society’s main objectives is to persuade people to change their lifestyle and adopt veganism.
